I’m happy to be hosting a stop on the book tour for Sofia Grey’s new novel, “Crash Into Love”.  And be sure to read all the way to the end for a great giveaway from Sofia!

Sofia Grey

Romance author Sofia Grey spends her days managing projects in the corporate world and her nights hanging out with wolf shifters and alpha males. She devours pretty much anything in the fiction line, but she prefers her romances to be hot, and her heroes to have hidden depths. When writing, she enjoys peeling back the layers to expose her characters’ flaws and always makes them work hard for their happy endings.

Music is interwoven so tightly into my writing that I can’t untangle the two. Either I’m listening to a playlist on my iPod, have music seeping from my laptop speakers, or there’s a song playing in my head – sometimes on auto-repeat.

Cass thought spending a month at a beachside hideaway relaxing and collecting shells would be the perfect escape to finish her novel. When she meets the dark and brooding and much younger Jonah, who’s staying next door, her book becomes the last thing on her mind.

Jonah would rather stay home alone than go on vacation with his brother and their friends, but does his best to tolerate the situation after being convinced to go. But when he sees the beauty next door, he can’t avoid his attraction.

Together, they break all the rules, but will Cass be able to bring Jonah out of his shell forever, or will he leave her with only the crash of the surf to keep her company?

Here’s Sofia on the music behind the book…

Trunk by the Kings of Leon

Music evokes moods. Loud, fast rock music is great to drive to, or to exercise to, while the sultry rasp of a blues singer is more suited to a downtown bar. Sometimes it’s upbeat, and other times melancholy. Most of my playlist for Crash Into Love is mellow, some poignant, the kind of tunes that you might listen to while thinking of your would-be lover.

The Kings of Leon feature with Trunk, and when I listen to this song I can see my heroine walking along a sandy beach, pausing to pick up shells and listen to the birds overhead.

Here’s the song: http://youtu.be/xd9P5-buhiE

Here’s the video book trailer: http://youtu.be/PGsW53sFGro

And here’s an excerpt from the book…

The sea was gentle today and easily soothed my ruffled composure. Soft ripples of water swirled up in a teasing fashion, dancing up to my ankles before drifting away again. I dug my toes into the damp sand and watched as the water puddled up beneath them, waiting for the incoming wave to splash over my feet. In my left hand, I carried one perfect scallop shell, all pink gloss and pale sheen like a bridesmaid’s dress, while my right hand nursed a bottle of water. Gulls wheeled overhead, mewing like kittens in a sky too bright to look at without squinting. I’d left my sunglasses on the table.

I found a patch of pristine sand in the shelter of a mountain of bleached driftwood. It looked as though it had been there for years, the branches twisted into strange, alien shapes. The shade it offered was tempting, and I took the opportunity to sit there for a rest. I was short of sleep. I awoke with a start some time later to find the sun high in the sky and the now familiar noise of my neighbors.

And here’s the giveaway…

Sneak Peek – “Dream Doctor”

Sneak Peek – “Dream Doctor”

If you’re a regular visitor to this site, you’ve surely seen this book before.  But if you’re coming from the Sneak Peek Blog Hop, then it’s probably new to you…

DreamDoctor

“Dream Doctor” is the second book in the Dream Series, and it picks up a year and a half after the events of “Dream Student”.  And here are six paragraphs that ought to leave you wanting more…

Sara is surprised, but only for an instant; then it becomes clear to her what’s going on.  This has happened before; this is not her dream at all.  She doesn’t cry, or scream; she simply closes her eyes and pleads – already knowing she will not be answered – “Please, God, not again!”

***

I open my eyes, and I know before I can even force them to focus what I’m going to see.  The clock reads 3:05 AM.

It was always three o’clock in the morning last time, too.  At least I didn’t wake up screaming.  Or bite off Mister Pennington’s arm again – my stuffed rabbit is still in one piece, right here in the bed with me.  I didn’t even wake up Lumpy, who’s living up to his name, snoring away at the foot of the bed all tangled up in the sheets, or Beth, down on the floor, looking more comfortable sleeping on an inflatable mattress than I would ever be.

I’m not going to tell her about this.  Or Brian.  Or anybody.  Especially not today.

It’s almost funny, except it isn’t at all.  I haven’t had any of these dreams in a year and a half, not since “it” happened – except one time, last summer.  When Brian was dreaming about me, and I saw it.  But that was the only time.

Talk about luck.  Of all the times for this to start back up, for my brain to start picking up signals again, it has to be the night before my wedding.

You can buy it, RIGHT NOW, on Amazon.  And it’s available as a FANTASTIC, professionally-recorded audiobook, too, which you can buy RIGHT HERE!

If you want a sample first, here’s ten minutes from the audiobook for you to listen to…

And you can follow the Sneak Peek blog hop below…

The New Covers

The New Covers

You’ve no doubt seen the re-designed covers for the first two Dream Series books.

I absolutely loved the work that the amazing Ami Low did on the original covers, working from my initial (and truly horrible!) sketches.  Over time, though, it became clear that the covers, great as they were, were not what readers of the genre (whether Paranormal Romance, or Suspense, or whatever you call these books) expected.  As Ami puts it, “what we like isn’t always what sells.”

It was with a lot of thought that I decided to go with a different approach, and I’ve been working with another wonderful artist, Emma Michaels.  She did the covers for a pair of great novels that a friend of mine, Fran Veal, wrote (I’ve reviewed and loved both of them.  You can read about them here, and here).

So here’s what Emma has done for me…

…and here’s a sneak preview of the new cover for book #3 in the series, “Dream Child”

Pretty good, no?  I’m impressed and thrilled with Emma’s work, and I’m hoping they’ll bring readers who might not have looked at the books before…fingers crossed!

Shannon currently lives in her home town with her Fiancée, three cats, and species confused dog. Experimental Heart: Pieces is her first published book and the first in the Experimental Heart series.

You can follow her at her website, on Facebook, on Twitter and on Goodreads.

“What exactly are you doing
here?” Julian turned to Evie, an edge to his voice.
She backed away and
ended up against the wall, again.
“Ask yourself that.”
“What’s
that suppose to mean?” He took another step closer leaving not an inch of
space between them.
Evie’s breath came in short bursts. Her hands went to his
chest and she felt the steady strong beat of his heart. She wanted to push him
off but more than anything she wanted him closer. Her body hummed with
awareness but she forced herself to concentrate on answering him. “Just
that is was you who got me down here in the first place. If you’re trying to
kill me, I’m sure there are better ways than sending me to be
chimera-chow.”
“I didn’t ask you to come here.” Julian was
frowning. The beating beneath her fingers sped up.
“Flavia said you did.
Covering your tracks now, are you?”
She raised an eyebrow, trying not to
think about the heat that simmered between them. From Julian’s rapid breath it
was clear he wasn’t immune. “Don’t be silly. This reeks of
Persephone.” When he spoke his lips were so close she just had to lift her
head a fraction of an inch for them to touch hers. The heated brush of his
breath called to her.
Instead, she remained motionless while trying to force
her heart to return to a more decent rate. “I thought so too.”
“Then why did you accuse me?” Julian’s glared at her, although she
was sure she saw amusement in his eyes. Evie lifted her chin, even though the
action brought her mouth way too close to his. “How was I to know you
wouldn’t defend her and think I’m making all of this up? And how am I to be sure
it wasn’t really you in the first place?”
Evie’s eyes narrowed as she met
his eyes. He stared back at her, blinking so slowly, so lazily that she
wondered how it was possible when his heart raced wildly beneath her fingers.

I have been a writer from the time I was old enough to recognise that
reading was a doorway into my imagination. Poetry was my first foray
into the art of the written word. Books were my best friends, my escape,
my haven. I am essentially a recluse but this part of my personality is
impossible to practise given I have two teenage daughters, who are
actually my friends, my tea-makers, my confidantes… I am blessed with a
husband who has left me for golf. It’s a fair trade as I have left him
for writing. We are both passionate supporters of each others loves – it
works wonderfully…
My heart is currently broken in two. One
half resides in South Africa where my old roots still remain, and my
heart still longs for the endless beaches and the smell of moist soil
after a summer downpour. My love for Ma Afrika will never fade. The
other half of me has been transplanted to the Land of the Long White
Cloud. The land of the Taniwha, beautiful Maraes, and volcanoes. The
land of green, pure beauty that truly inspires. And because I am so torn
between these two lands – I shall forever remain crosseyed.I love talking to my readers so email me if you have any questions or even if you just want to chat…

Book Re-Launch – Sotia Lazu and “Cherry Stem”

I’m happy to host a stop on the launch week blitz for author Sotia Lazu and her new novel “Cherry Stem”.  Be sure to read all the way to the end, because Sotia’s got a giveaway for you to enter…

authorpic-2

Sotia cries at sappy movies and wishes she could take in all the stray dogs in the world. She lives in Athens, Greece, with her husband—whom she met through writing—their son, and their two rescue dogs, one of which might be part-pony.

Her genres of choice are romances with a twist and urban fantasy novels, always with vivid erotic elements. Her characters aren’t exactly hero-material at first glance; she likes making them fight for their happiness. Still, the romantic in her can’t resist happy endings.

Cherry Stem_sml

Turned at the cusp of a promising career in the adult movie industry, Cherry Stem has to rely on her mesmerizing vampire gaze for her meals and money. With the rent deadline approaching, settling for pocket change isn’t an option, so she reluctantly decides to let tall, dark, and handsome Detective Alex Marsden take her home for the night and fulfill her needs.

Only she gets more than she bargained for.

When Cherry meets Alex, she expects him to be nothing more than another “girl meets boy, girl feeds from boy, girl erases boy’s memories” hook-up. Once missing young women, the vampire council, and her irresistible ex are thrown into the mix though, she realizes nothing is as simple or random as she thought it was.

And Alex is either the biggest gift or the biggest mistake of her un-life.

Excerpt

Hiding my body seemed silly after we’d already had sex, so I didn’t. Not that he looked. He just dropped a duffel bag by the sink.

“Thought you’d want clean clothes as soon as you were dry,” he said. “Got a couple tees and sweatpants from my place. They’ll be too big for you, but at least the pants have drawstrings. Should be good for the night.”

Then he pulled his shirt over his head.

If I were human, I’d have been drowned by the water filling my mouth and clogging my throat while I gaped at him. As it was, I was grateful I’d opened the shower stall door and could enjoy the view.

Most people look better when they’re dressed than when they’re out of their clothes. There are always flaws, something that needs covering up: a slightly jutting stomach, love handles, scars, pimples. Something.

To me Alex was perfect.

I’d already run my fingers down his chest and abs, but seeing the smooth, flawless skin stretch over rippling muscle made me itch to caress it. His shoulders were wide; I knew that already, but the way they rounded, leading to his flexing biceps, was a sight to behold. And that’s what I did. I beheld, wishing he was closer, that I could press my breasts against his chest and see goose bumps rise.

I would probably have kept staring at his six-pack for much longer if his fingers hadn’t gotten in the way. Splayed across his abdomen, they touched what I longed for, ghosting their way down to the front of his pants. I wanted to lick my way along the trail of fine hair beneath his navel that disappeared inside his waistband. I sucked in a breath when he undid the button and another when the zipper lowered, allowing his slacks to fall to the teal, tiled floor.

My gaze followed them, until he stepped out of the pooled fabric and toward the shower stall.

Toward me.

Sneak Peek Sunday!

Sneak Peek Sunday!

I’m participating in the Sneak Peek Sunday blog hop (you can follow along with the other fantastic authors in the Hop- follow THIS LINK to see them!).  So here’s a sneak peak at the work-in-progress seventh book of the Dream Series…

This is from the opening chapter of the book; Sara is dreaming, or, more accurately, watching someone else’s dream, about her:

The driver’s door opens, and a high-heeled shoe emerges – three or maybe even four inches, Sara guesses.  A leg that’s bare to the knee follows it out, and then the other leg.  When the rest of the driver is visible, Sara gasps: it’s her.

Not precisely her: even from this distance, Sara can tell that the woman down there is wearing more makeup than she’s ever had on in her life, and the woman’s suit is sharper than anything Sara’s ever worn.  But other than that, Sara is looking at herself.  She laughs at the image: it’s a perfect stereotype of what someone who gets all their ideas from TV shows would think a big-city doctor might look like.  Showing up in an insanely expensive sports car, with a suit that probably cost $5,000 and shoes that belong on a model?  There’s nothing else to do but laugh – except that the dreamer, whoever he is, actually sees Sara that way.

Dream-Sara disappears from view – presumably into the hospital – and the man begins muttering.  Sara listens closely, and it’s more cursing than muttering, and directed at her.  Fear – and anger – spread across the man’s face.  “She wasn’t going to come!  Why is she here?”

Sara hears the clackety-clack of heels approaching, and a moment later the door is thrown open with excessive force.  Her dream-self stands there in the doorway, takes in the scene and turns her gaze onto the office’s occupant.  “You!  What’s your name?  Banks?”  Sara can’t help herself: she’s both horrified and fascinated by this vision of herself.

“Dr. Bates,” the man says, fighting to keep his voice level.

“Whatever,” the dream-Sara spits.  “You’re in my office.  Out!  And take all your crap with you!”  She heaves a deep sigh and then stalks past the dreamer – poor Dr. Bates – and up to his wall of carefully-hung diplomas.  Then she reaches up and begins pulling them off the wall, tossing them carelessly behind her.  “Things are going to change around her, Banks,” she says, not turning to look at him.  “Things are going to change…”

Sara continues to watch, unable to look away, as the dream-Sara trashes Dr. Bates’ office, berating him all the while.  And as she watches, the meaning of this dream becomes crystal clear.  Oh, my God, she thinks, shuddering, I’m not even starting the job for four months!  How can I have an enemy already?

Cover Reveal, Bits & Bytes Print Anthology

On December 19, 2013, I released the final book in my Bits & Bytes contemporary romance series, Learning New Tricks. The entire series was a blast to write, and it was bittersweet to leave those characters behind.

But I am giving them all a new chance at a new distribution channel. I’ve decided to compile all four books into a single print anthology, available March 15, 2014. After working with the fabulous talent at EDH Graphics (link to http://edhgraphics.blogspot.com/), she’s come up with an amazing cover to encompass all four books.

I’m also kicking off a month long blog tour to celebrate the entire Bits & Bytes series. Every week will offer insight about a different book in the series, reviews, and a giveaway. Here’s an excerpt from “Holding Her Close”

Holding Her Close Excerpt

A quiet knock filled the dark living room, sending a tremor through Rae, and she paused. She swallowed and padded toward the door. Her heart flipped when she peered through the peephole. Zach stood on the other side, tugging on his ponytail.

She flipped the deadbolt off and opened the door enough to let him in. He took the silent offer and stepped inside, kicking the door shut behind him. His hands rested on either side of her face, and he kissed her. There was hunger in his lips. It stole her breath as he held her close, and she gasped when they broke apart. He studied her, blue eyes frantic.

She didn’t know what else to do. She returned the kiss, pushing closer. The sensations set her nerve endings on fire, and she stumbled back, pulling him with her. She hit the arm of the couch, lost her balance, and landed on the cushions.

He laughed as he knelt on the couch, straddling her, and brushed a loose strand of hair out of her eyes. “I couldn’t sleep. I was out driving, and I got your message, and I… I don’t even know. I had to see you.”

“What are we doing?”

He shook his head. “Not talking. For God’s sake, we’ve done enough of that.” He leaned forward, lips brushing her collarbone and tracing a line up her neck. “We can hash it all out later, I promise, but I want you so bad right now—and even if you made me talk, I’d tell you whatever you wanted to hear to have you.”

She arched her back and moaned as his lips roamed her skin. “Yeah. Later is good for me too.”

Get Hooked – Dream Student!

Get Hooked – Dream Student!

Since I’ve got a brand new cover to show off, it seems like a great time to re-introduce new readers to the first book of the Dream Series, “Dream Student”…

EbookDreamStudent

So here are just a few sentences from the book to whet your appetite…

I don’t want to fall asleep because of the dreams I’ve been having.  “Nightmares” is a better word.  I don’t think even that really gets the point across, though.  Is there a word for dreams that are worse than nightmares?  There should be.

It’s been the same the last four nights, exactly the same.  The people in it are the same, the places are the same, everything happens exactly the same way, in the same order, and the worst part is that it all feels so real.  There isn’t any of that weird imagery that people always talk about–talking rabbits or losing your teeth while flying naked behind trains through long dark tunnels or whatever else.  Everything that happens in this nightmare could come right out of the news.  It could all really happen.

Oh, God.  That’s a horrible thought.  What if–maybe it is really happening?

You can buy it – RIGHT NOW! – at Amazon.
