Welcome Wednesday – a Picture’s Worth a Thousand Words

Welcome Wednesday – a Picture’s Worth a Thousand Words

Welcome to this week’s edition of Welcome Wednesdays!

Let’s talk about pictures today.  It could be a book cover, or a photo of an actor who might be a good choice to play one of your characters in a movie.  It could be a photo or painting that was an inspiration for something in one of your books.  Or it could be artwork inspired BY your books.

Whatever it is, your challenge today is to share an image that relates to one of your books in the comments.  If you want to embed the image in your comment, here’s how to do it:

Get the link to the image you want to use, and then use the following HTML code in your comment:

<img src=”IMAGE URL” width=”200″>

Or, you can simply post the link to the image, on your website, on IMDB, on Amazon, on a museum website, or wherever it happens to be.

I’ll begin…

I’ve had original artwork commissioned on deviantart.com for my books – mostly for fun, or for sharing in tweets and so forth.  Here’s an illustration showing the characters of the Jane Barnaby Adventures:

Welcome Wednesday – Changes

Welcome Wednesday – Changes

Welcome to this week’s edition of Welcome Wednesdays!

Let’s talk about changes today.  Not changes you make in the process of rewriting and editing, but changes you’ve made AFTER you’ve initially published a book.  Have you gone back and revised one of your books later?  Changed the cover?  Republished it with a new publisher (or self-published after getting the rights back from a publisher)?  Tell us about one of your books that has changed in some way after it was first published…

I’ll begin…

The original covers for my Dream Series books were hand-painted by an artist, Ami Low.  She did a fantastic job, but it turned out that what I’d asked her to produce was wrong for the market and the audience I was trying to reach, and I had to change them – much thanks to Emma Michaels, who designed all the new covers.

So here are three images.  The first is my initial MS Paint “sketch” (a generous description, I think) that I gave to Ami to show her what I wanted.  The second is what Ami produced.  And the third is the redesigned cover by Emma…

Welcome Wednesday – Audiobook Edition

Welcome Wednesday – Audiobook Edition

Welcome to this week’s edition of Welcome Wednesdays!

Since I have a brand new audiobook out, let’s talk about them this week.  Authors, if any of your books are available on audio, tell us about them!  Give us a link to a sample we can listen to, tell us about the narrator, talk about the process of getting it produced.  And be sure to give us a link where we can actually buy your audiobook or learn more about it (and you!)

I’ll begin…

My newest audiobook is the audio edition of LOSERS WEEPERS.  It’s book #2 of the Jane Barnaby Adventures, and in it, our heroine travels to England to try and save a friend from the con artist she’s about to marry…and she ends up trying to unravel a 50 year old mystery.  It’s narrated by Cait Frizzell, who is just fantastic, and I was very luck to be able to work with her.  You can hear a sample right here on this page:

Welcome Wednesday – All About Autumn

Welcome Wednesday – All About Autumn

Welcome to this week’s edition of Welcome Wednesdays!

Since we’re a couple of weeks into autumn, let’s talk about that this week.  Authors, tell us something about how this season features in one of your books.  It could be a scene that takes place in the fall, it could be a character named Autumn, it could be a book you finished in October – give us something relating to the fall.  And be sure to include a link so we can learn more…

I’ll begin…

A couple of my Dream Series novels take place in the fall.  One of them, DREAM REUNION, has a specific reason for taking place in October – in that book, our heroine, Sara, goes back to college for her 10-year class reunion, which in real life at my college (which Sara’s school was loosely based on) takes place in mid-October.  So, this book had to happen then, too…

Welcome Wednesday – Tell Me Why

Welcome Wednesday – Tell Me Why

Welcome to this week’s edition of Welcome Wednesdays!

This week, we’re going to continue with last week’s theme of asking you a question from my standard list of author interview questions.  So what I want you to do is pick one of your books and answer this question:

Using no more than two sentences, tell us why we should read your book?

(be sure to leave a link to the book with your answer, so we actually CAN read it!)

I’ll begin…

I’ll pick DREAM STUDENT (book one of the Dream Series).  Why should you read it?  Because it’s a great combination of humor, heart, romance and suspense, all tied together with a unique supernatural twist.

Welcome Wednesday – Who Are You?

Welcome Wednesday – Who Are You?

Welcome to this week’s edition of Welcome Wednesdays!

Every week, the theme here has been about your books or your writing process, so let’s change it up and talk about YOU, the author yourself, this week.  We’ll use one of the usual author interview questions I use…in the comments below, tell us:

Who would play you in a movie about your life?

I’ll begin…

This is a hard question, because I can’t imagine anything about my life being in a movie.  But if I had to pick an actor, maybe Jack Black?

po_hero

He’s a little bit too manic most of the time (I don’t have that much energy!), but he can be more subdued when he has to be.  And he’s almost exactly my age (only 23 days older than me), so it’d be a perfect match that way.

Now it’s your turn!  Tell us which actor or actress should play you in your movie biography, and be sure to leave a link to your website, blog, FB page, etc. so we can find out even more about you…
