When she’s not writing, she’s probably running lonely stretches of country road, riding her old horse, or working on a home improvement project. She enjoys reading just about anything, having a good laugh, and making memories with friends and family most of all.
You can follow Rachael all over the interwebs:
And now for the book!
She’s determined to stay grounded while he can’t wait to leave.
Katie Holloway is content in Blessings, Kansas, the town that’s the only family she has ever known. When her best friend shows up with Will, the handsome older brother that Katie hasn’t seen in years, Katie is determined to prove to him that small-town living has its virtues.
After his father’s injury, Will Ryan reluctantly agrees to come back to help with the harvest but wants to get the job done sooner rather than later. When he sees Katie all grown up, he reconsiders his rush to leave. There’s just one problem: she’s his little sister’s best friend and that makes her off-limits.
With the harvest taking longer than anticipated, Katie puts Will to good use arranging a Thanksgiving meal for townsfolks who could use a place to go. As they grow closer, an opportunity presented to Will threatens to end it all before their love has a chance to blossom.
You can buy it on Amazon RIGHT NOW!
Last, but certainly not least, we’ve got a great interview with Rachael!
byWho is your favorite author?
Do I have to choose just one? If I stick to the romance genre, Becky Monson is definitely a favorite. I love her witty, funny, klutzy characters. I can’t help but sympathize with them and root for a happily ever after.
How do you describe your writing style?
Eclectic. I tend to write the way I read—I’ll read just about any genre (as long as it’s clean ). I do tend to include a lot of humor (I can’t take much of anything seriously), horses often make an appearance (they’re my favorite animal of all time), and I try really hard to capture the full spectrum of emotions people experience. When the characters and their dialogue are central to the plot, they feel like well-rounded, believable, delicious stories that I’d want to read.
Why should we read your books?
One of my f-a-v-o-r-i-t-e things as an author is getting a quick note from someone who read my books and enjoyed them. It’s an incredible act of vulnerability to me to allow someone to see something so personal to me. All I want as an author is to offer a bit of escapism, a little laughter, some happy sighs, and a feeling of satisfaction when all is said and done.
Have any of your characters been modelled after yourself?
All. The. Time. That’s another thing I think is really cool about writing—it gives me a chance to be introspective and discover parts about myself that I’d otherwise forgotten. I can embrace whatever is quirky or interesting about myself and bestow those traits to my characters. They always deliver it in a much more enjoyable way than I ever could because they have the benefit of me thinking it through before they do it.
If you could exchange lives with any of your characters for a day which character would you choose and why?
I’m not sure I could choose just one…each time I get to peek into the life of one of my characters, I’m thoroughly entertained. Yes, they are fictitious but it’s a reflection of real life. I did have to choose ONE, I think I’d like to be Ruby from When a Star Falls, my Pop Stars Series. She’s a regular gal with a knack for music and songwriting, who’s unexpectedly catapulted into stardom. As an introvert, it would be interesting to live that kind of extroverted lifestyle…just for a day.
What books have most influenced your life?
There are so many! Beyond the scriptures, I have loved and been impressed by classics like Black Beauty by Anna Sewell and Peter Pan by J.M. Barrie. Then there are more modern ones, like Ella Enchanted by Gail Carson Levine and These is My Words by Nancy E. Turner. Honestly, I can’t think of a book that didn’t have an influence on my life, even if it was only to entertain me for a few hours.
If you could select one book that you could rewrite and add your own unique twist on, which book would that be and why?
Hmm…I haven’t thought much about redoing another’s work because I’m usually in awe of another person’s storytelling abilities and don’t feel like I could add to it. I will say, I would love to give Black Beauty a modern twist because, horses. Can’t ever have too many horse books as far as I’m concerned.
Beatles or Monkees? Why?
Monkees, ‘cause that’s what I remember my mom listening to, although my husband is a staunch Beatles supporter. I’m sort of stuck in the middle.
Who should play you in a film of your life?
If I could choose anyone, I’d be honored to have Audrey Hepburn portray me, not because I look anything like her, but because I think she’s a fascinating person with an incredible history. If we’re talking about looks alone, I’ve been told I look like Kirsten Dunst. I’d be alright with her, too.
