My Sexy Saturday – March 7th

My Sexy Saturday – March 7th

So it’s time again for the My Sexy Saturday blog hop.  It’s simple: post seven paragraphs fitting this week’s theme (“We all know that love happens and we want to know all about those special moments where those entities realize there is an emotional bond between one another.”).  So this is from DREAM STUDENT, right after Sara has returned to school after Christmas break, and she’s trying to think of a way to properly thank her boyfriend for his gift to he r(a very expensive emerald necklace).  And she does come up with something…

“Your Christmas gift is the best and the most special one I’ve ever received.  I’ve thought and thought about what I can give you in return, and I know now what it will be.  I want to be your best, most special Christmas present.  This year, and every year…”  I read it back over, several times.  I underline the “I want.”  I think that says it perfectly.  When I’m finished, I put the card in the envelope and seal it.

I go around to the back stairs and head up to Brian’s room.  The credit card trick works just as easily as it did the other day and I go inside.  I take the Christmas card with the note I wrote and tape it to the outside of the door.  Then I go inside and I lock the door behind me.

I take off my coat and all the rest of my winter gear, and I don’t even realize I’m folding everything and hanging it up neatly until I’ve done it.  Some habits run really deep, I guess.  When that’s finished, I take off everything else I’m wearing – of course I fold all that up, too – and I get properly dressed for the surprise.  I lie down on his bed to wait.

It’s almost three o’clock when I hear footsteps right outside the door.  I hear Brian’s voice muttering “what the heck?”  I hear the card being taken off the door and opened.  There’s nothing for probably a minute, which feels to me like an hour, then there’s the key in the lock, the doorknob turning, and there he is.  There’s my boyfriend, who I love, looking at me with a mix of confusion, amazement and desire on his face.

What he sees is me in nothing but the black lacy underwear from the Victoria’s Secret “naughty nighttime” collection I bought yesterday, and a Christmas bow tied around my neck.  I’m lying in what I hope is a very seductive pose.  The sight has him speechless, which is exactly how this was supposed to go.

“Did you read the card?”  All he’s capable of is a barely perceptible nod of the head.  “Good,” I tell him.  “I meant every word.”  The confusion slowly disappears from his face, and I repeat, just to make sure he’s got the point: “Every single word.”

He belatedly realizes that he’s still standing in the doorway; without taking his eyes off me, he reaches back, pulls the door closed and locks it.  And then I show him just how much I meant everything I wrote.

Another movie casting idea

Another movie casting idea

I’ve played around with the idea of who I’d cast in the various roles if the Dream Series books were ever made into movies (not that I’d likely have any say at all if it did happen!).

I’ve got a new favorite choice to play Sara.  She’s Danielle Panabaker and she’s one of the stars of “The Flash” (which is my favorite new TV show this year).  On the show, she plays a scientist, Dr. Caitlin Snow, who helps out Barry Allen/the Flash.  Personality-wise, her character is actually a fairly close match to Sara.  And physically, she totally looks the part (except that she’s a lot taller than Sara, but I wouldn’t let that be a sticking point).  The best thing?  She’s 27 years old, and can play both younger and older, so if the books ever were turned into movies, she could portray both the college-age Sara of DREAM STUDENT and DREAM DOCTOR; and also the mature, adult Dr. Sara Alderson of the later books.

And she’s not the only cast member of The Flash who would be a good fit; her co-star Grant Gustin, who plays Barry/the Flash, would make a perfect Brian.  He plays the character as mild-mannered, low-key and heroic to the core, which fits Brian to a tee.  And physically, he’s a great match for the character, too.

Here are a couple of photis of the two of them, in character, from The Flash:

At Odds With Destiny

At Odds With Destiny

That’s the title of a new multi-author box set (a set in which there are several complete books, each one by a different author).  One of the books in the set is my own DREAM STUDENT, but there are nine other fantastic novels in this set.

It’s available starting tomorrow morning on Kindle (but you can pre-order it now)

And I’d like to turn the blog over for a few minutes to the amazing woman who started this box set and has been the driving force behind it, Uvi Poznansky:

Lately, despite being an intensely private person, I have found myself increasingly engaged with readers and listeners. Why? because of my characters. Having sprung from my mind onto the page, they might die there, pressed between the front and back covers–unless I make it possible for them to spring from the page to your mind.

I thrive on reaching out to my audience. Every day I discover new ways to create this connection and strengthen it. By far the best way is forging alliances with other authors, whose work is of outstanding quality and whose audience appreciates creativity. To this end I review fellow authors on my blog, which is my way of recognizing their talent. I organize author events on Facebook to showcase our work. I read a lot of novels, note their reviews, and actively seek out book recommendations, all of which allows me to choose the best and the brightest for the most ambitious team project I created to date: a boxed set titled At Odds with Destiny.

My vision for this project is to bring together ten authors and offer you a selection of great novels that cross boundaries in terms of genre. I am so glad that put together, our stories invite you to explore. And so–whether you are a young adult or young at heart, whether you enjoy the thrill of adventure or the immersion into the character’s stream of conscience, and whether you want to be swept away to distant times and places or to see contemporary settings with sharper clarity–you will find a story here to your liking, and then some! This project is meant to celebrate excellence in writing.

At Odds with Destiny is like an assortment of chocolates. Relish the work of the author you enjoy, and then taste new, unfamiliar flavors. The more you take in, the more you’ll feel the awakening of your senses as well as your appetite.
