And here’s the book…

The Wrong One 2 (427x640) (2)

One by one, the residents of Landry, Georgia gave up on finding Lyssa Winders alive. It had, after all, been fourteen years since she vanished. The men who invaded her home left behind the bodies of those she loved with all her heart. Only one person never gave up and still searches for Lyssa. Kyle Tinker battles his own demons from that night, when he hid like a coward instead of running for help. Their eighteenth birthday looms on the horizon, and Kyle is determined to bring Lyssa home.

Meanwhile, Kim Tinker is having trouble understanding her dreams about a pretty blonde girl—she has no idea that these dreams are of her life as Lyssa Winters. She also hears a guy who has recently started talking to her–in her head. All Kim wants is to get away from a family which hates her, but doing it safely is the one thing which eludes her.

On the day of the Freedom Festival, Kyle sees the girl he never thought he’d see again. And Lyssa finds the one person she’s protected for the last fourteen years on their shared birthday.

And here’s an excerpt…

Four-year-old Lyssa Winders landed with a thump on her living room floor. Her bottom hurt from the hard wood, and her head ached from all the yelling and shouting she’d been hearing. Nothing made sense. She just wanted this to stop.

Her parents, Auntie Keisha, Nana Brandy, and Grandpa Monty kneeled in front of her. They had their hands on the back of their heads, and they looked very scared.

“Gonna talk now, Jack?” the stinky man asked. He had carried her out of the safety of her bedroom and dumped her on the floor. “Or do I hurt your kid?”

Stinky jerked Lyssa to her feet. She couldn’t run. He held her tight in front of his nasty smelling body.

“She’s just a baby,” Daddy said. “Don’t hurt Lyssa. Let her go. She won’t tell anyone anything.” He stared at her with scared eyes. “Right, baby? You won’t say anything.” She nodded, and her daddy faced Stinky. “See, she agreed. Just let her go.”

“Nope.” A man near her laughed.

She turned her head and saw her puppy. Rags crept out from behind the sofa. His tail stood straight in the air, and he made growly noises in his throat.

Lyssa swallowed hard. Rags couldn’t come any closer. Stinky had a gun. He had a horribly tight grip on her shoulder.

Title: The Howling Heart

Author: April Bostic

Genre: Adult Paranormal Romance

Published on August 8, 2013 by Eternal Press

Length: 220 pages

Synopsis:

Paige Donovan is an ambitious college graduate who aspires to reach the top of the corporate ladder. She’s climbing fast when given the promotion of a lifetime at a prestigious fashion magazine in New York City. Her bright future comes to an unexpected halt after news of her father’s death. She inherits his old cabin in the Colorado Rockies, and just when she thinks her luck couldn’t get any worse, she has a car accident in the mountains and awakens in the small, remote community of Black River.

Soon, she’s engulfed in the mystical world of Varulv—wolves descended from 13th century Scandinavia and blessed by Norse gods with the ability to appear human. Paige is desperate to return home, but never expects to fall for her rescuer, Riley Gray, a charming young werewolf from England who offers her an alternate future with his pack.

Now, she must choose between the career she’s always wanted and the love she’s always dreamed.

Excerpt:

Riley walked away and took a few steps toward the river. With his back facing me, he stood while looking at the waterfall. It was a beautiful scene—his tall, shirtless body with his blonde hair tousled and gently blowing in the wind. He took another step and surprised me by kicking off his boots. Then, he leaned down and rolled up his pant legs. He jogged over to a cluster of large rocks, his footing quick and poised, and sat with his bare feet dangling in the water.

I yelled out, “Is it safe to do that?”

He looked at me and laughed lightly. “Yeah, it’s safe. Do you think there are piranhas or crocodiles in the river?” He continued to chuckle, and a toothy smile broke free on my face. “Don’t worry. There isn’t anything deadly in these waters—just harmless fish, frogs, and Northern Water snakes. They won’t hurt you.” He beckoned to me. “Come over here and join me. The water is nice and cool.” He kicked his feet, making splashes in the water.

I was hesitant to join him, but the water intrigued me. I decided to trust him, so I walked over to the rocks. They were flat, smooth, and slick. My steps were wobbly as I tried to avoid getting a foot stuck in the cracks or slipping on the moss. Once I stood next to him, he looked up at me with a wide smile. I removed my sneakers, peeled off my socks, and rolled up my sweatpants. Riley was right. The water was pleasantly cool and refreshing.

He kicked his feet again, this time making a bigger splash. I tried to outdo him, but my smaller feet were no match for his large ones. We laughed together, but the rushing water overpowered the harmonious sound.

I stole a glance at him while he looked at the river. He leaned back casually on his elbows, and I couldn’t help but admire his six-pack abs and toned chest. Little, brown moles spotted his torso, and I imagined playing connect-the-dots with my tongue. His skin enticed me, and I wanted to run my hands all over it. A lustful feeling washed over me, and I swallowed thickly, averting my gaze.

Riley chuckled low in his throat, and I knew he caught me staring. His hand touched my lower back, and I looked at him over my shoulder. A grin spread across his lips as he tugged the shirt hem.

“This is my shirt, isn’t it?” My eyes widened, and I whipped my head around. In less than two seconds, my face flushed with heat.

“Um, yes,” I mumbled. “Sorry. I borrowed it, because Quinn’s clothes were too small for me, and I didn’t feel comfortable browsing through Celia’s wardrobe.” The latter reason was a lie. I was just  determined to cover
myself with his clothes.

“No worries. I don’t mind,” he soothed. “You can borrow whatever you want. What’s mine is yours, love.”

I turned my head slightly to peek at him, grateful his focus was still on the shirt. I recalled the words he spoke earlier. “Let’s say hypothetically I did stay here with you. How would we be together when I’m human and you’re a wolf?” “If you’re referring to us being biologically compatible, Máni and Freya blessed us, so we can breed with humans.”

His foot brushed against mine under the water. It came back a second time and then a third. He sat up and scooted closer to me, until our thighs were touching. I looked over at him and almost fell into his seafoam pools. I had to regain control before I did something I would regret…like lean over and kiss those bee-stung lips.

And, here’s an interview with the author…

Who is your favorite author? Charlaine Harris. I’ve read her books more than any other author.

How do you describe your writing style? I like to be very detailed to help readers imagine what I’m writing, but I’ve found I’m not as fancy and colorful as some other authors. I don’t have an extensive vocabulary, so my writing is pretty simple and clear.

Use no more than two sentences. Why should we read your book? The Howling Heart a unique twist on the werewolf myth. It’s an emotional rollercoaster of a love story!

Have any of your characters been modeled after yourself? No, and I avoid doing that at all costs. I never insert myself or personality into my characters.

If you could exchange lives with any of your characters for a day which character would you choose and why? I’d trade places with Quinn from The Howling Heart. She’s very pretty and she’s a werewolf! I think it would be cool to transform into a wolf and experience the world with a human’s mind in a wolf’s body.

What books have most influenced your life? None really.

If you could select one book that you could rewrite and add your own unique twist on, which book would that be and why? I think I’d rewrite the first Twilight book from a college girl’s perspective with darker themes. The vampire myth would be my own creation and no sparkling. Maybe they’d be like my vampires in my upcoming short story, A Dark Scandal, where they’re descendents of a fallen angel with black wings.

Beatles or Monkees? Why? Beatles. They were a very talented bunch of guys and if it wasn’t for them, the Monkees wouldn’t exist.

Who should play you in a film of your life? My mom has said in the past that actress Tempestt Bledsoe looks like me, so I’ll choose her.

For nearly 600 years Dragomir Petrescu has fought for The Alliance. As one of the most skilled warriors the Alliance has ever seen he’s killed a lot of people and won many difficult battles. But his newest human adversary is turning out to be a worthier opponent than any he’s met. Just the scent of her disarms him, never mind her endless policies and silly ideals about civility.
Can he possibly keep her safe from Alliance enemies, hospital employees and himself? The term Employee Relations is about to have a whole new meaning.

A Box of Dreams

A Box of Dreams

That’s the title of the collected edition – the “Kindle box set” – that’ll include all five current Dream Series books.  It’ll also include “Betty & Howard’s Excellent Adventure” as well as three short pieces that look in on Sara in between the events of the books.

I’m really excited about this project – I hope it’ll do really well.  I think people will like having the whole series (so far) in one convenient package.

And, work continues on book 6, “Dream Reunion.”  The end is in sight…

Betty and Howard – I’ve heard the audio

…and it’s fantastic!  Nicola Bryant did a wonderful job – I’m absolutely thrilled!

I’ll post a sample tonight – I always like to pick out a particular scene or two I like, rather than just using the standard “first 5 minutes” that Amazon provides for the audiobook sample you listen to on their website, so I’ll have that up as soon as I get the chance.

You can see the video book trailer RIGHT HERE,

And here’s an excerpt…

Where U @

The text is from my guy, Dave Woods. It’s a code, a way for him to help me feel better about everything. Mostly, it’s his way of showing me that he cares.

Kitchen. I roll my eyes. Cleaning.

Want to come do mine?

His return text sends me into a fit of giggles. That’s something only he can accomplish.

RFS?

More code, and this one sends fear shivers up and down my spine. I am in no way ready for school, but I’ll have to go tomorrow, no matter what.

I text him back, slide my phone into a pocket, and open the door to a floor to ceiling pantry. To put away the last of the dishes, I have to step into a room that is narrower than a shoebox.

The same reaction overtakes me that I experience every single night, as soon as my foot moves through the doorway. Cold sweat rolls down my back. I can’t catch my breath, and the walls feel like they’re squeezing the life out of me.

And here’s what you’re waiting for, the cover for her brand new novel…

Taming Jenna by Charlene Raddon - 200

What’s it about?

THE WRONG MAN

Deserted by her father at the tender age of seven, Jenna Leigh-Whittington had taught herself to ride, shoot, brawl…and steer clear of the opposite sex. But now, in a lonely Utah canyon, the Pinkerton agent has drawn her gun on a rugged stranger—only to discover that, far from the dangerous outlaw she’d been tracking, he is Branch McCauley, hired gun…and the most irresistible rascal ever to tempt and torment a woman!

THE RIGHT WOMAN

If there’s one thing McCauley trusts less than a female, it’s a female who packs a six-gun. But what a woman! Vowing to bring the sensuous hellcat to heel, McCauley has no inkling that their passionate battle of wills has just begun. Taming Jenna will be the most seductive—and satisfying—job he’s ever taken on.

Charlene has even been kind enough to provide an excerpt to whet your appetite for the book…

Jenna scowled as she studied the man by the flickering glare of his campfire. He had the right build and appeared close to thirty, Mendoza’s age. But something didn’t fit.

The Denver police chief had described her quarry as a spoiled aristocrat, too busy wooing Lady Luck and every other female to be much of a train robber, let alone a killer. But the rogue in front of Jenna looked too lean and hard to be spoiled, too wary and aloof to be a ladies’ man.

To Jenna he seemed the perfect gunslinger: cold, tough, and ready to spring. Like a big yellow cougar perched on a ledge. Or a rattler, tightly coiled. Either way, his bite would be deadly.

In spite of the cool night breeze, sweat oozed from her pores. She couldn’t forget that lightning draw. Why had she come here? How had she expected to take an outlaw Pinkerton’s other agents had failed to bring in? No, she refused to think that way. She was every bit as capable as any man to capture Mendoza. She had to believe that, the same way she had to do what she’d set out to do. Only one question remained: Was this Mendoza or not?

“Who are you, mister?”

“Who am I? Hell, who are you? ”

Blast! Did no male exist in this empty wilderness who wasn’t so taken with himself that he couldn’t cooperate for a change?

She took a calming breath. A body could catch more flies with honey than vinegar, old Charley Long Bow used to say. Jenna figured flies might fancy the hairy creature facing her, so she decided to try being friendly. “Listen, I smelled your coffee and hoped you might spare a cup, is all. You can understand me being a mite leery of walking into a stranger’s camp without knowing who I’m hooking up with.”

Firelight glinted on the man’s straight white teeth as his whiskers parted in a cold smile. “Don’t recall inviting company, but I’ll play your game. Name’s Branch McCauley. Now it’s your turn.”

His smile unnerved her. It held no humor, only a lethal sort of grimness that cannoned her stomach into her throat and made her wish she’d wired William Pinkerton for instructions instead of going off half-cocked this way. “I’m Jim…Jim White,” she lied.

“All right, Jim, how about some honesty? You come here looking for me?”

“I’m not looking for anyone named Branch McCauley. If that’s who you are, you’ve nothing to worry about.”

The wide, innocent eyes McCauley studied held honesty. He relaxed. “In that case…be glad to pour you some coffee.” He reached for the battered graniteware pot. His visitor’s next words froze him in a half-stoop: “I’d feel more welcome if you’d set aside your gun first.”

Cool as Montana sleet, McCauley straightened, hand poised above his holster. “Reckon you would. Wouldn’t do much for my sense of well-being, though.”

So much for trying to be friendly, Jenna thought. What now? She clenched her knees together to still their shaking and swallowed the fear knotted in her throat.

“Look.” McCauley shifted his weight to one leg. “Why don’t you put your gun away and have a sit? Could be I might know something about the hombre you’re hunting.

Hombre. Sounded Spanish. Like Mendoza. It must be him. She had to get his gun away from him. Surprise seemed the best means. She squeezed the trigger of the .44 Starr. The bullet kicked dirt onto the man’s scuffed boots. He jumped and let out a yelp as though she’d set his feet afire.

“Dammit, kid, going up against me won’t get you anything but a six-foot hole in the ground.”

“Shut up and toss over your gun or I’ll turn them boots into sieves. ‘Course, my sights might be a bit off.” She raised the muzzle toward his groin.

“You made your point,” he growled as he unbuckled his gun belt and tossed it over.

Instead of the fancy weapon she had expected a gunslinger to own, an ordinary, six-gun lay at her feet. No ivory handle or engraved barrel. Only an ordinary .44 Peacemaker, crafted and worn for one reason—to kill. The thought did funny things to her innards.

“All right,” she said, getting back to business. “You aren’t going to like this, mister, but I don’t know any other way to be sure who you are. Drop them trousers to your ankles.”

“Do what?”
