Welcome Wednesday – Sharing is Caring

Welcome to this week’s edition of Welcome Wednesdays, and welcome to 2016!

This week, I don’t want you to talk about yourself.  Instead, I want you to tell us about someone else.  Share a little bit about a deserving fellow author.  Tell us about one of their books, tell us about one of their characters you especially love, share a paragraph or a fantastic one-liner from their work.  Be sure to give us a link so we can follow them, too!  And while you’re at it, do leave a link for yourself as well!

I’ll begin…

I’ve got a great author to share.  She just released her debut book last month.  She’s C. Rose, and her book is called Posh Bytes: BeautyWorld Tales of Whimsey & Woe.  It’s set in a future where computer implants are everywhere, and everything you see might be an illusion.  It’s a novel-length collection of seven stories, all of which are fantastic.  Here’s the description:

FALL INTO POSH BYTES, WHERE EVERYONE IS BEAUTIFUL… In a universe where anyone can choose to be beautiful, who really is? Appearances can be deceiving, and usually are. When reality is shaped by illusion, anything can happen. Science and art converge in the luxe glamor of BeautyWorld. These loosely connected Tales of Whimsey and Woe explore the concept of perceived beauty, and how the lives and loves of Posh Bytes‘ colorful characters are affected for the better or worse because of it. In a world where everyone appears to be perfect, what can possibly go wrong?

You can find the book on Amazon (FREE on Kindle Unlimited!).  And her website is www.poshbytes.com

  1. In the mood for something funny, thrilling and… different? Try Edwin Stark. This Venezuelan author is a genius of the written word, pulling out unusual plot lines and fantastical adventures, all while using a writer’s voice unlike anything I’ve heard before.

Whether your passion is vampires, zombies or trippy superheroes, give Edwin Stark a try. You won’t be disappointed.

  2. Author Erin Bevan is one of my unsung heroes. This is a lady who writes up a storm, is published with two different small publishers, and writes the sweetest, most heartwarming stories. You can find Erin here: on Facebook https://www.facebook.com/erinbevanwrites and on her website here: http://www.erinbevan.com.

Erin and I have become crit partners/beta readers, even though we write different genres. I write New Gothic romance, which is contemporary romance w/a ghostly twist. 3. Paranormal and contemporary romance author Blaire Edens is one of my favorites! I can’t pick a favorite book of hers–they’re all great. Her work is funny and smart, and I’m always delighted to see a new release!

Here are two of her paranormal releases:

Maeve McMahan, a criminal defense attorney, has just blown the case of her career. When she returns home to the mountains of North Carolina to clear her head, she moves back in with her grandmother. On an easy hike, she meets the one woman she never expected to see: Delphine, The Witch of Roan Mountain.

Accused of a terrible crime she didn’t commit, Delphine has been haunting the county since just after the Civil War and she can’t rest until her name is cleared. She’s counting on Maeve’s help to get to the bottom of the century-old mystery.

Campbell Hyatt, a sheriff’s deputy, has never gotten over his first love, Maeve. When her grandmother breaks her leg, Campbell’s on duty and he finds Maeve at the top of Roan Mountain, convinced she’s seen a ghost. A cop who doesn’t believe in ghosts, he thinks Maeve needs to be focused on her grandmother not an old legend that hits a little too close to home for his liking.

With Maeve’s car out of commission and Granny stuck in the hospital, Campbell and Maeve are thrown together in a quest to find out why Delphine was branded a witch. It will take both of them to get to the bottom of a nineteenth century story love story that may impact them more than they realize. Can they banish a ghost without rekindling an old flame of their own?

When a slave uprising threatens the life of Syreena, the daughter of an eighteenth century plantation owner, a servant uses voodoo to transform her into a mermaid. The spell will be only broken when she returns to the beach where it was cast. After three hundred years of swimming, she’s ready to trade fins for legs. The only problem is she can’t find her way home.

Dylan, a twenty-first century Coast Guard Officer, has sworn off love for the sea. When a wave throws him overboard, Syreena uses her amulet to ward off the sharks and save his life.

With Syreena and Dylan stranded on a remote cay in the Caribbean, Dylan has the know-how to build a raft and navigate but his near-drowning has made him terrified of the water. Syrenna will use every charm she has to convince Dylan to take her home.
Even if it means falling in love. . .

The next books in my own paranormal romance Night Shift series will be out this year! Check out the first book here:

Detective Cami Davis and her sexy, cowboy-turned-vampire informant are all that’s standing between humanity and monsters who would rule the world—and all that’s standing between them having a torrid love affair is the fact that he’s an enemy of humanity.

  4. It’s so hard to choose just a single author. There are many, many good ones!

I’d love to say Julie Lessman is by far the best romance author I’ve ever read. She has stories full of passion yet completely clean. I always get left wanting to read more and can never put the books down.

Then there are Heather Gray and James DiBenedetto who open up their blogs each Wednesday for other authors to get their name/personality out there. That’s awesome!!

A huge shout out goes to other authors from the CIR group. They are supportive, and I just can’t say enough nice things about that group. Thanks for everything!

  5. My new favorite fantasy author is Annie Douglass Lima. I’ve read all her books and they are wonderful stories, tightly written and perfectly edited. Also, K.S. Jones’ Shadow of the Hawk is one of the best YA books I’ve ever read, reminiscent of John Steinbeck.

  6. Maria Grazia Swan (http://smile.amazon.com/Murder-under-Italian-Lella-Mysteries-ebook/dp/B00G7067FY/ref=asap_bc?ie=UTF8) and Candida Martinelli (http://smile.amazon.com/Rose-Singing-Bagels-Candida-Martinelli-ebook/dp/B0151E324A/ref=asap_bc?ie=UTF8) are two of the most generous authors around. It was their selfless support and guidance that introduced me to the world of independent authors supporting one another…and they both write super fiction, too.

  7. This week I’m all about my friend, mystery author Angela Wren, and her debut novel Messandrierre, an intriguing and suspenseful story set in rural France, featuring detective Jacques Foret, with a love interest in the form of English photographer Beth. This is extraordinary accomplished for a first book, and I can’t wait for the sequel(s)

Messandrierre is on amazon here: http://www.amazon.com/Messandrierre-Angela-Wren-ebook/dp/B0191Z0BF8

Or find out more about Angela (and a link to her fascinating blog, James et moi) at http://www.angelawren.co.uk/

  8. One of the most intriguing books I’ve read lately is A Whisper of Angels by Lourdes R. Florido. I think it hasn’t gotten the attention it deserves because it’s hard to categorize — it’s about two teenaged boys in New Bedford during the whaling era, but it’s not really YA. It’s a bit paranormal because there are angels and different ideas of heaven. And it’s a very chaste M/M romance, sealed at the very end with a kiss.

If any of those elements appeal to you, then I think you’ll like A Whisper of Angels. Florido writes a great story and it’s fascinating to see the way love endures beyond death, beyond time.

  9. If you’re looking for the quirky and the different then there’s a collection of short stories I can recommend called Koi Carpe Diem by Sheila North. She’s a new author with quite a unique take on life and a a sharpness in her writing style that I really enjoy. You can find her collection here (It has some great original artwork by Tom Brown) http://www.amazon.co.uk/Koi-Carpe-Diem-Tales-Mystery-ebook/dp/B014728ZAI/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1452356444&sr=8-1&keywords=koi+carpe+diem
