Welcome Wednesday – Brag a little!

Welcome to this week’s edition of Welcome Wednesdays!  I hope you’re enjoying these weekly posts and finding some new authors to follow!

Today let’s all be a little bit boastful.  Authors, I want you to quote from a rave review of one of your books.  Show us how your readers praise you!  And be sure to include a brief description of the book and a link so we can find it for ourselves!

(be sure to provide a description and link to the book!)

I’ll begin!  Here’s a wonderful review of the second book in the Dream Series, DREAM DOCTOR:

All I can say after reading Dream Doctor (Dream Series, Book 2) by J.J. DiBenedetto, is I’m glad there are eight books in this series. The first book impressed me with the author’s imagination. Not only does he make it all so plausible, but Brian and Sara seem so real to the reader. He’s captured, or created, true chemistry

  1. One of the best reviews I ever got was on Goodreads, and on my least successful book. While I usually write romance, this one is a collection of humorous essays and short stories that originally appeared in my blog. I’ve haven’t sold many copies, so I’m really proud of this review:

“I thoroughly enjoyed this book and would highly recommend it to anyone that enjoys a good story that makes you laugh out loud. The author has a wonderful sense of humor and it shines through in her writing. Through her stories we are reminded that laughter and joy are all around us in our everyday lives it just depends on how we look at it. This book would make a great gift.”

  2. Hey James, this was my very first review of my very first book The Children of When:

I believe in this book so much, I will make a bold, sweeping statement and say I believe it has enough potential in time to be as big as Harry Potter and I honestly believe it is much better written.

I asked Jen a few questions, but first here’s the review I wrote for her on Amazon:-

“Every so often a fantasy series comes along that leaves you chomping at the bit for more. Children of When book one is just one example of this.
With the potential to be just as big as Harry Potter or The Hunger Games, this first chapter in a brand new series is a thoroughly enjoyable and engaging tale aimed at young teens, though older readers will likewise find a lot here to enjoy as well.
When Leah, Raff, and Belle all turn fourteen, each of them in turn is transported to a mystical and fantastical land by way of a magical portal. Here, as well as learning who they really are, the three teens soon find themselves caught up in a quest to reunite the peices of an ancient amulet. But various dangers await them and before long the three find themselves fighting off all sorts of peril as they struggle to adapt to a new school, a new life, and the startling truth that their fates are intrinsically entwined.
Though I am not exactly the target audience, I found much here that I absolutely loved. The book was easy to read, highly engrossing, and certainly left me wanting to read the next book in the series.
Though at times a little too easy to read for me, nonetheless this book never once failed to impress and was one of the best books aimed at a younger audience I have read.
Jennifer Redmile has a very strong and confident writing style that is instantly welcoming and engaging and I look forward to seeing bigger and better things from her in the future!”

  3. Wow, it’s difficult to choose from so many great reviews, but this one is short and sweet: “Mercy’s Prince is a beautifully written book. It has everything that makes a good fantasy: characters with special powers, a danger that must be faced or human survival is in danger, and traitors that are undermining what needs to be done to satisfy their own ambition. And most important of all, it has dragons. If that is not enough, Mercy’s Prince is also a story of romance. I particularly liked the character of Mercy, who could touch a plant and discern its medicinal or toxic properties. This book was well written and well edited.”

  4. This review of Noelle’s Golden Christmas pasted a permanent smile on my face.

“Ok, so when the author of Her Best Match writes a novella for Christmas…you gotta read it!! I absolutely love the fun wit and banter that Tamie Dearen uses in her books and this book was no exception. I literally read this book in one day. It was so sweet and endearing. She had a few scenes in there where I laughed out loud while reading it. I love books like that. Life is hard and sometimes you just need a fun romance that has charm and wit to escape from reality. Please get a cup of hot chocolate and enjoy this book. It will get you in the Christmas spirit!!”

  5. I truly love each review I’ve gotten so to pick one is difficult. However, one person simply said, “Brilliant story about the misunderstandings and the triumphs of growing up, friendship and love!!!” I guess I love this because it’s short and to the point, yet portrays exactly what the book is about.

This is from my debut novel, Growing Up Neighbors. Here’s a little teaser: Little Deborah Harrington stared across the street the day the Michaels family moved in. Who was this family? Would she even like them? Nicholas Michaels hated the fact he had to move away from everything and everyone in his life, but his feelings change when he meets the Harringtons. Deborah and Nicholas become the best of friends, and as the children grow up, their friendship deepens. But then tragedy strikes. Will this cause them to part ways? Or will it perhaps make them realize they may have stronger feelings for one another before it’s too late?

  6. There have been some great reviews for my YA love story, Aisuru, that made me tear up while smiling, but I think my favorite is this one from GoodReads: “This was the first book I purchased for my Kindle at the special price of $0.99. And it was SO worth it!

I really enjoyed this book. Advertised as a book written with the feel of a manga/light novel, it held true. I felt as if I was reading something from a manga – just without the illustrations. Sweet and simple, this youkai story was a pleasure to read.”

Knowing my novel was someone’s very first Kindle novel is just kind of awesome and awwwwww 🙂

  7. Very difficult to decide which review is the best but I decided on this one because it encompasses the three books of the Dundee Crime Series, and because he sadi he liked them so much he read all books within the space of a week.

As an aficionado of crime fiction set in such Scotttish cities as Aberdeen, Edinburgh, Glasgow, and even St Andrews I was delighted as an exiled Dundonian to chance upon Chris Longmuir’s “Dundee Crime Series” of which Dead Wood is a part. Having read all three books of the series in a week I must nominate Dead Wood as my favourite story perhaps of all time. Great characters, thrilling action, high suspense, all make for splendid reading. But faint hearts beware – Mills and Boon this is not! The Dead Wood of the title is Templeton Wood in the outskirts of the city, notorious for the discovery in 1970 and 1971 the bodies of two young women, a grim fact cleverly remarked upon by the author. I have to say that in over seventy years of reading crime novels I find this tale perhaps the most gripping of all, a real page turner. More please, Ms Longmuir!” – I Christie

The link posted is for the ebook box set of The Dundee Crime Series, it will take you to my website where there are links to the box set, and also to the individual novels which are available in paperback and ebook formats.
