Indie Author Spotlight – Penny Estelle and “Gabe: The Thornton trilogy”

Please welcome a great indie author to the site this morning – Penny Estelle!

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

I write for all ages, from the early reader to adults.  My books range from pictures books for the little ones, to fantasy, time-travel adventures for ages 9 to 13. I also write adult stories, including a family drama and contemporary, paranormal and historical westerns romances, under P. A. Estelle.

I was a school secretary for 21 years.  My husband and I moved to our retirement home in Kingman, AZ, on very rural 54 acres, living on solar and wind only.

Good morning J.J.  I want to thank you for letting me stop by your blog this morning so I can share with your readers my newest story, Gabe, The Thornton Trilogy, Book 1.  Also, J.J., if we have some comments I would love to draw a name and send a digital copy to that person.  Don’t forget to leave an email address!

And here’s her new book!

Gabe cover, final

Gabe Thornton inherits the Double Bar Ranch from good friend and neighbor Bill (Pappy) Thomas, but there are conditions.   Last Will and Testament states five hundred acres have been set aside for his only niece, or interested heirs.  The property must be lived on for a year or said acreage will revert back to Gabe.

Molly Blackburn shows up in Bastrop, Texas, to claim the land her great uncle has left her.  Though she knows nothing about cattle ranching, she has no other choice when her father passes away.

Gabe is sure she won’t last a month and he tells her so, but greenhorn or not, she swears she will be there till the bitter end, no matter what!

Will she give up her land or will she find more than just a cattle ranch in Bastrop?

And here’s an excerpt:

“Hey,” a voice yelled from behind startling her and making the horse dance away. “What in tarnation are you doing in there?”  He was a husky bald headed man in overalls that had one strap hanging.  Blue shirt sleeves were rolled up past his elbows and he was wiping his head with an old dirty rag.

Molly walked to the gate, letting herself out.  “Obviously, I am looking for a horse, sir.”

“You trying to get yourself killed?”

Molly turned and looked at the 2 old mares standing there and then leveled her gaze back to the irritated man.  “I don’t believe I was in any immediate danger.”

“Now see here, Missy, Old Lucy or Dollar may seem a bit past their prime, but either one of these here horses would be the perfect fit for a young filly like you.”

“Sir,..”

“Now I ain’t no sir.  Flynn’s my name.  Chester Flynn.”

“Please tell me about the gray gelding, Mr. Flynn.”

Chester looked over at the horse and winked at Molly.  “Gray Boy? Now you do have an eye for good horseflesh.  That there horse would be a great buy.  Has some spirit and comes from good blood and word is he’s clear footed.  Ain’t never stepped in a gopher hole.  His sire is none other than…”

“I don’t care, Mr. Flynn.  I’ll give you seventy dollars and I want him shod and a saddle thrown in.”

His eyes popped out wide.  “That’s plain robbery,” he blustered.

“That’s my offer, Mr. Flynn.  I’m sure Mr. Phelps can assist me in the purchase of a good horse elsewhere.”

Molly turned to walk away.  “Now hold your horses.  I guess I can do that,” Chester stuck his chin in the air, “but I ain’t got no English style side saddles and the ones I do have are old.”

“That is absolutely fine.  I’ll be back in a while to pick him up and I’ll pay you then.  Will that be alright?”

“Fine,” he muttered grabbing a rope and heading to the corral.
