Indie Author Spotlight – Juli Revezzo and “Changeling’s Crown”

I’ve got two great indie authors for you today.  The first one is Juli Revezzo…

JuliDRevezzob

Juli D. Revezzo has long been in love with writing, a love built by devouring everything from the Arthurian legends, to the works of Michael Moorcock, and the classics and has a soft spot for classic the “Goths” of the 19th century. Her short fiction has been published in Crossing the River: An Anthology of Sacred Journeys, Dark Things II: Cat Crimes, The Scribing Ibis, Eternal Haunted Summer, Twisted Dreams Magazine and Luna Station Quarterly and Crossed Genres’ “Posted stories for Haiti relief” project, while her non-fiction has been included in The Scarlet Letter. She has also, on occasion, edited the popular e-zine Nolan’s Pop Culture Review… But her heart lies in the storytelling. She is a member of the Magic Appreciation Tour and Indie Author Network. And her book is “Changeling’s Crown”

CHANGELINGS CROWN_700

When Ianthe began her career as a faery godmother, she stumbled so badly that Snow White will probably never speak to her again. After a long suspension, she’s finally been given a chance to redeem herself…but everything on this latest assignment is going wrong.

But why?

Worse, she definitely doesn’t need an attractive mortal man distracting her from her duties. Of course, needs and wants are two different things.

Briak has had his eye on Ianthe for a very, very long time, but he’s been waiting for just the right moment to make his move. Despite the fact all hell’s about to break loose on his watch, he can’t resist the opportunity to insert himself into her earthly assignment. Can he convince Ianthe of her true calling and thereby win her heart? Or will his subterfuge ultimately cost him her love?

Last (but not least!) I’ve got a great interview with Juli…

Who is your favorite author?

Juli: Oh, I have many—Melanie Rawn, Anne McCaffrey, Virginia Woolf, and indie authors like S. G. Rogers and Marsha A. Moore. But my absolute favorite is Michael Moorcock.

How do you describe your writing style?

Juli: I always add a touch of magic and fantasy into everything I write. So that a story about an artist and his wife will include visits with the paranormal, gods and goddesses (The Artist’s Inheritance) or the owner of a horse ranch will have her marriage saved by a faery godmother. (Changeling’s Crown) J

Use no more than two sentences. Why should we read your book?

Juli: Why, to be entertained, to have a little chuckle. To put a little magic into your world, a bit of something to remind us, “chill out, we’re all searching for something, so enjoy yourself.”

Have any of your characters been modeled after yourself?

Juli: I think Ianthe might be a tiny bit like me in her drive and possibly some of her worry. Briak might be a little bit like me too, because I can do slow boil anger from time to time (then again, who can’t?). But I love a happy ending too, like Ianthe. So it evens out.

If you could exchange lives with any of your characters for a day which character would you choose and why?

Juli: Oh, I think either of the main character’s in CHANGELING’S CROWN, while riding in the Wild Hunt might be fun. J At least once.

What books have most influenced your life?

Juli: I’m most influenced by Michael Moorcock’s Elric series. If I hadn’t found them, I might not be a writer. But there are also the works of Virginia Woolf, C.L. Wilson, Meg Cabot and Kathy Carmichael. J. Sheridan Le Fanu and Edgar Allan Poe, and the Medieval Epics. The list could grow to be exhaustive! It’s diverse, I know but I think (and maybe this comes from having a literature degree and being a bookworm myself), why shouldn’t we read anything and everything we can get our hands on? We’re so privileged to have access to all these wonderful stories, goodness why would you want to do anything but read as many of them as possible?

If you could select one book that you could rewrite and add your own unique twist on, which book would that be and why?

Juli: Maybe Dracula. Why? I’d kill off Jonathon Harker right at the beginning. Honestly, he’s an obnoxious character, at best. And if I could do it in a movie, I’d kill Jarjar Binks immediately. As soon as he walks on screen. 😉

Beatles or Monkees? Why?

Juli: The Monkees. I used to have a crush on Davy Jones!

Who should play you in a film of your life?

Juli:  She’s younger than me but… Maybe Alexis Bledel.
